Dear Reader,
It's not everyday that people get the opportunity to experience another culture. As long as I could remember, I have always been intrigued by the Japanese culture. I was born and lived in Japan for several years since my father was stationed there as a Navy Seals. My family and I moved back to America after his term. The whole experience was a life-changing event and I am truly blessed for those memories. I thought it would be a wonderful idea to base my project on the different aspects of the Japanese culture and compare it to the American culture. To me, the Japanese has a more complex and different way of life than the Americans.
The multi-genre project has a variety of genres to help display the Japanese culture. The genres that I chose was: travel poster, schedule, collage, trivia facts, pie graph, photo gallery, of quotes, photos with description, grocery list, poems, a wordle, and a timeline. Each genre contains information about the culture that would be easy for the reader to understand and interpret. The travel poster will show posters of America and Japan. The posters will help the audience visualize a type of scenery from Japan and America. I wrote a schedule of a high school student from Japan and America to weigh the differences out. I wanted to see if a high school student across the world is that different from American high school students. The collage will show some sports in the two countries. My favorite genre will be the trivia facts because there were a lot of information that I did not know about Japan. The pie graph is to show the crime rate level in Japan and compare it to America. I like this genre because it shows how safe it is to live in Japan. Japanese art and American art has a big contrast. I constructed a photo gallery for different art pieces in Japan and America. The photos with description will show the festivals and parades in Japan and America. To compare the literature from each country, I decided to put together poems for a genre. The wordle is comparing the religions that exist in each country. I also constructed timelines of the major events of Japan's history and America's history. Overall, the genre's should help the audience visualize life in Japan to their lifestyle.
The Japanese has a more complex and different way of life than the Americans. I felt the need to do my multi-genre project on the Japanese culture because of my passion for the culture. It is truly a beautiful culture. Having the opportunity to produce a project like this one, was a fun learning process. Readers, I hope you will see how amazing the Japanese culture and will be able to interpret the aspects of the Japanese and the American culture. Please, enjoy!
Sincerely,
Breanna Herring
